DHCR has a new proposal for Electchester tenants

The NYC's Division of Housing and. Community Renewal (DHCR) has proposed a 25.5% increase in rent for tenants living at the local Electchester buildings in Kew Garden Hills. This is across the local NYCHA, Pomonok.

Now residents are furious and calling for answers on the corner of Jewel Avenue and Parsons Blvd, not far from the 107th Precinct after there were round of talks. The DHCR has not responded to the resident's demand for answers.

This is under The Mitchell-Lama Program that provides housing across New York State that is affordable to the middle class. It was created by the Limited Profit Housing Act in 1955, which was championed by Manhattan State Senator MacNeil Mitchell and former Brooklyn Assemblyman Alfred Lama.

According to local residents, the plan is to raise rents to increase the value of homes so property taxes can be hiked by the city. Along with that memo, the future of Pomonok to hand over to a private company to manage instead of the city.

Already NYCHA locations in some parts of Flushing have been contracted to private companies for management takeover.

Soon, Queens will be a very expensive place to live.
