DA Katz and NYPD take 76 guns off the streets at Jamaica buyback event

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced that 76 guns were collected Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica during a gun buyback event. The weapons were exchanged for bank cards and Food Bazaar gift cards, no questions asked. The buyback is the 10th of DA Katz’s administration and a total of 543 firearms have been recovered to date.

District Attorney Katz said: “Gun buybacks are an incredibly effective way to get firearms off our streets. This Saturday, working with the NYPD and community leaders and clergy in Jamaica, we received 76 guns – including five automatic weapons. Every weapon recovered is a potential tragedy averted and now, after our 10th buyback event, we have taken 543 firearms out of our communities. We thank our partners at the First Presbyterian Church for hosting us and look forward to announcing our next buyback event in the near future.”

The guns turned in were:

  • 37 revolvers
  • 19 semi-automatic pistols
  • Five assault weapons
  • Five rifles
  • Six shotguns
  • Four additional weapons (pellet guns, etc.)
