Copaigue woman busted for scamming a New Hyde Park woman

Third Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Copiague woman for Grand Larceny that occurred on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 2:30 pm in New Hyde Park.

According to detectives, an unknown male contacted the female victim, 88, claiming to be her grandson. The male stated he was involved in an auto accident and injured a pregnant woman. After explaining he was arrested, the male provided a phone number for his lawyer and directed the victim to call. The victim called and was instructed to make a payment of nine thousand eight hundred dollars ($9,800) for bail money and include an additional one thousand two hundred dollars ($1,200) to keep the arrest off his criminal record. An unknown female arrived at the victim?s residence and completed the transaction.

After a thorough investigation, Maria Adames, 25, of 136 Galvani Street was arrested for the above crime.

Defendant Adames is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree. She will be arraigned on Friday, September 13, 2019 at First District Court, Hempstead. (From NCPD)
