Congestion pricing to start on January 1 in Manhattan

Starting January 1, Manhattan will have congestion zone with pricing. The pricing as part of Governor Cuomo's plan to raise money for MTA will have surcharge for e-hail, yellow cabs and other for hire vehicles below 96 Street in Manhattan. The state reported the pricing will generate $400 million dollars.

For yellow cabs, it will be $2.50 per trip per pick ups recorded by the meter. For e-hailing apps such as Uber and Lyft, the price is $2.75 per trip and $2.00 if its shared ride per trip.

Yellow taxi union believed metered are not rigged and e-hail apps drivers will be avoid the surcharges with loopholes but NYC Taxi and Limo Commission reported they must submit their trips in writing.

The only exception is black cabs such as Lincoln Town cars which the city officials are looking into. If the plan is successful, then the surcharge will apply to all drivers and not just taxis.
