Coming soon to College Point and its jail

College Point - A new jail in College Point is under the planned proposal after Mayor di Blasio reported of closing of Rikers Island. The mayor wants to open small jails around NYC and shut down Rikers. The plan has been discussed for the last one year. The location of College Point is near the police academy. Bushwick and East New York are two locations in Brooklyn under consideration. Another two in Staten Island. Mayor's office didn't disclose possible locations for Manhattan. The Bronx location is Hunts Point near Vernon C Bain Center which maybe closed under the new plan. The budget is $7 billion dollars and if there is a go ahead, Rikers Island will be phased out within 20 to 30 years. Pic is the police academy. Reported 2:30pm.
