Charges announced after fatality on Jericho Turnpike in Bellerose

The NYPD announced charges against a driver yesterday after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and died on Jericho Turnpike in Bellerose last year.

The incident was reported on December 14 around 6:45pm where a pedestrian, male, 78 who lives nearby was crossing Jericho Turnpike from 91st Avenue intersection when a pick up truck was making a left turn also from 91st Avenue struck the victim.

During the incident, the driver of a 2010 Dodge Ram identified by police as Benjami Jean-Baptiste of Bellerose remained on the scene and cooperated to date with the investigation.

On Tuesday, after making the arrest, the charges were issued which are misdemeanors. One is failure to yield to a pedestrian and the other is failure to exercise due care. Both are issued with a desk appearance to return to court on the dates listed summonses.

The family of the victim, Jose Jimenez is expected to appear in court. Jimenez died one week after the incident.

The investigation is still ongoing.
