Bengali community at Jamaica Hills in relief after lengthy crusade

Today, the Queens DA's office announced life in prison for robbery suspect, Yonatan Galvez-Marin, 25 after the homicide of Nazma Khanam, 60, of Jamaica Hills. Back in August 2016, Khanam was walking home on Normal Road near Hillside Avenue in Jamaica Hills when around 9:15pm, Galvez-Marin approached her demanding money. She refused and was stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife resulting her death. Her husband was also walking but was ahead. Three days later. Galvez-Marin was arrested after investigation. The trial lasted one week with jury announcing the guilty verdict earlier. The community of Bangladesh held protests and other rallies to keep the case strong for the victim and her family. Today, more than 250 people were in the court room to find relief when the sentence was announced.
