Attempted robbery in East Garden City

Police reports the arrest of a Roosevelt man for attempted robbery that occurred on August 26, 2020 at 8:18 p.m. in East Garden City. According to detectives, a male armed with a machete ordered occupants out of their vehicle, a 2013 Toyota, in the parking lot of Lifetime Fitness located at 750 Zeckendorf Blvd. The victims fled the scene with the key fob, rendering the vehicle inoperable. The subject was unable to operate the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. After an investigation, Elmer Marroquin, 38, was placed under Arrest for the above incident on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 4:13 p.m. The subject was transferred to a local hospital for treatment of an unrelated illness. Elmer Marroquin is charged with Attempted Robbery 1st degree, Attempted Robbery 2nd degree (motor vehicle), Menacing 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
