Astoria man arrested for leaving the scene of fatal accident

The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 3:40 am in South Farmingdale.

According to Detectives, Eighth Precinct officers responded to 116 Merrits Road for a pedestrian struck. Upon arrival, officers observed a male, unknown race, lying in the roadway with severe head trauma. A short bed silver /grey pick-up truck struck the victim and left the scene prior to police arrival. A Nassau County Police Department Ambulance transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased by a hospital physician shortly after arrival. The investigation is ongoing.

The above listed deceased has been identified as Mohamed Elromi, 24, from Astoria.
