Amityville teen indicted for attempted murder

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that a 15-year-old defendant was indicted for Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, and several related charges, for allegedly shooting two victims at a Central Islip apartment complex pool in June.

“This violence has no place in our community,” said District Attorney Tierney. “My office will do everything in its power to seek swift justice for the victims.”

According to the investigation, on June 19, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., two groups of teenagers engaged in a physical altercation at the Hawthorne Living apartment complex swimming pool.  Moments after the fight broke out, the defendant allegedly pulled a firearm from his backpack and fired at least 10 rounds that struck two victims. Seven of the shots struck his alleged intended target. The other victim was an adult female who was accompanying the juvenile victim that day.

The defendant allegedly fled the scene after the shooting. Suffolk County Police allegedly recovered 10 spent shell casings and multiple stray bullet fragments, one of which entered a nearby apartment. No other victims or injuries were reported.

On August 14, 2025, Suffolk County Police investigators along with members of the United States Marshal Services of New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and the District Attorney’s Gang Task Force, apprehended and arrested the teen in Amityville.
