Allegany woman charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records

The New York State Police at SP Hornell announce the arrest of Brenda L. Buck, age 59, of Allegany, NY, following an investigation into a financial crime at a senior living facility in Steuben County.

On March 26, 2026, State Police received a report of suspected fraud and larceny at a senior living facility located in the town of Hornellsville. The complaint stemmed from a corporate audit that revealed irregularities involving a facility's cash account used for resident transactions.

An investigation determined that between March 2025 and March 2026, Buck—who was employed at the facility and responsible for managing resident financial accounts—allegedly misappropriated approximately $46,020 in U.S. currency. It is further alleged that Buck falsified business records and forged the signatures of residents to conceal the thefts. Approximately 30 residents were identified as being affected by the fraudulent activity.

On March 31, 2026, SP Hornell Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) members located Buck and transported her to SP Hornell for processing.

Buck was charged with the following:

Grand Larceny 3rd degree (D felony)

Falsifying Business Records 1st degree (E felony)
