Albany thruway stop leads to arrests for felony drug possession

On September 25, 2026, members of State Police Troop T, SP Albany and Troop G Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Violent Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested Tasheem Haggray, 31, of Amsterdam, and charged him with the following:

Criminal possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree (felony)

Criminal possession of a controlled substance, 3rd degree-intent to sell (felony)

Driving while ability impaired by the consumption of alcohol

Vehicle and traffic law violations

Ptolemy Sutherland, Jr., 26, of Schenectady, was also arrested for the following:

Criminal possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree (felony)

Criminal possession of a controlled substance, 3rd degree-intent to sell (felony)

At approximately 8:35 p.m. on September 25, troopers observed a 2004 Buick sedan traveling north on the New York State Thruway (I-87) in Albany in violation of vehicle and traffic laws and conducted a stop. Upon interview with the operator, identified as Haggray, troopers detected signs of alcohol impairment. During the investigation, troopers located approximately 506.5 grams of oxycodone.

Haggray and his passenger, identified as Sutherland, were transported to SP Albany for processing, where Haggray registered a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.06%.
