A pedestrian struck by vehicle on Union Turnpike

Police have closed Union Turnpike and 176 Street to Utopia Parkway westbound in Fresh Meadows reporting serious injuries after a pedestrian was struck by vehicle.

Reported the driver took off and stopped later near Utopia Parkway stating not realizing the incident.

EMS transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition. The vehicle has been towed for safety check. Ongoing investigation.

Use alternate route. Update - the 78 year old female pedestrian of Jamaica died at the hospital.
