A new bill coming to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day in NY

On Monday, October 9, local NY Assembly member, Charles Barron is having a press conference in Columbus Circle next to the Columbus statue of a new bill to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day. Barron said to the media that Columbus was a racist, slave holder, colonist, murderer of indigenous people and never discovered America. If he did, why there were people already exists. Already drawing backlash from Italian-Americans due to their festivals and celebration of culture, they reported that Columbus Day is a day to celebrate who they are and their contribution to America. Barron will announce while the Columbus Day parade is on with more than 35,000 people expected to attend. The bill will be presented soon to Assembly. If passed, then head to Senate. If Senate passes the bill, then its on the desk of Italian American Governor Cuomo who need to sign to make it law. This will be the most watched bill in NY.
